To all the concerned citizens that attended last night’s TCEQ hearing on the proposed on the permit for the Flying Bar D wastewater treatment plant the CULP board would like to say THANK YOU!
Citizen turnout was off the chart and the number of people willing to ask hard questions of the TCEQ and Developer was inspiring. As importantly, the number of comments that we as a concerned group of citizens provided during the hearing truly demonstrated our citizenry’s complete and total opposition to the proposed water treatment plant.
As was explained at the meeting last night by the TCEQ rep, the TCEQ permitting team will now go back and address and or respond to “formal comments from last night’s meeting that they deem to be pertinent”, as well as the comments that have been posted on the TCEQ website concerning this permit. If you have not, but still care to post comments on the TCEQ website, you have until February 3.
I wish I could say we won but I cannot confidently say that. My gut feel from the TCEQ and Developer representatives was that approval is likely, however we gave the TCEQ quite a bit to consider and that take time, and time is our friend.
The fight is not over, the Developer still has a lot of work to do. They do not have any easement rights to run the pipeline two miles downstream or permission to cross FM 725. In addition, there are significant issues concerning the erosion and potential pollution that will occur in the creek beds below the discharge pipe, not to mention the effects of the treatment plant odors on our friends closest to the plant.
There also remain questions over the plant’s location and whether its proposed location is within the 100-year floodplain or the floodway.
Please pay close attention for updates concerning this propose permit and the status of the permit. The CULP Board is dedicated to getting as much information on the status of this permit and providing to all concerned citizens.
STAY TUNED!
CULP Board
